Now is a great time to be looking for a job as a pharmacy tech. According to U.S. government data, employment is predicted to grow much faster than the national average for other jobs. In fact, they expect the number of employed pharmacy techs to jump thirty-two percent in the next ten years. There are a number of reasons to explain the big leap in jobs. For one thing, there will be greater numbers of middle aged persons and seniors, and these are the populations that rely on pharmaceuticals the most. Additionally, improvements in technology will lead to more drugs on the market than ever before, thus the need for more pharmacy tech jobs.
Another source of pharmacy tech jobs are the insurance companies. Run for profit, they are looking for any benefit to the bottom line that they can find. This means that over time, pharmacy techs will take on more responsibilities and do the work of pharmacists themselves, thus reducing the need for costly labor expenses. Of course, pharmacists will still be needed for supervisions, but pharmacy techs will pick up the slack of the workforce. Both they and pharmacy aides are part of the system behind the counter, and the hiring of individuals for these jobs is sure to skyrocket over the coming months.
