Pharmacy techs enjoy good salaries commensurate with their experience. The averages are as follows. According to data from 2006, the median wage was twelve dollars and thirty-two cents per hour. The middle fifty percent earned within a range of about two dollars of this number, with the bottom bracket at ten dollars and ten cents and the top as fourteen dollars and ninety-two cents. Obviously, there is quite a range in terms of pharmacy techs’ potential earnings, but for those at the top end the salaries are quite good. In fact, the top ten percent check in with earnings over seventeen dollars and sixty-five cents per hour.

Another key point of consideration when discussing pharmacy tech salaries is the work environment. Depending on where the technician is employed, hourly wages can differ by at least two dollars or more. Traditionally pharmacy techs in medical and surgical hospitals earn the most. According to government data from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, hospital employees earn approximately thirteen dollars and eighty-six cents per hour. Those in grocery stores check in at twelve dollars and seventy-eight cents, and surprisingly pharmacy and drug store workers are the lowest earners at eleven dollars and fifty cents. Typically, pharmacy techs with certificates and degrees will earn more than their non-accredited counterparts.
